Many Penn students fell victim to political inaction and complacency despite the initial strong reaction to the 2016 Presidential election. In light of this, we created a banner out of Tyvek with a message “Political complacency is criminal. Stomp it out.” taped across. When students stepped on the banner on Locust Walk, the message slowly revealed itself as the untaped portion collected dirt and debris, thus creating a collective product from individual actions. For the final part of our intervention, we asked students to help us reveal the message by peeling the tape off of the banner, a call for action from otherwise passive bystanders.
